Artist Statement
Right now, we are all redefining ourselves, our neighborhood and how we see into the window of the world. These are all the things that inspire my art.
My journey as an artist started long ago but I have only recently returned to painting, working mostly in oils. The beauty and depth of oils create a desired mood for my work. This revival of my creative passion has prompted a new chapter in my life, as I begin to redefine the artist I once was, through the lens of a life I have since lived.
Town Redefined portrays my hometown during the darkest hours of the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond my town, this series speaks to the larger shared experience of communal fallout and resilience during a pivotal historical moment.
Strength + Radiance explores the ways in which a woman’s relationship with her surroundings affects the relationship she has with herself. This series examines the constant push and pull of what it means to be a woman, evolving in her own right.
Each series is inspired by a different time and place in my life, from my childhood in India to the home I’ve long loved in New Jersey. By transforming pieces of myself into art, I’m able to share these emotionally resonant moments with others, encouraging us all to discover beauty in unusual places.
